WHAT A DIFFERENCE A LITTLE TLC MAKES!

Well Look At Them Now! Bert and Ernie are the picture of health, and looking for a forever home.

They are 10 weeks old now, and must be adopted together, after all, they have been through hell and high water together from the day they were born.

Their mother was hit and killed on the road and two of their siblings didn't make it. Ernie almost didn't make it, but he pulled through.

November Update:

BERT & ERNIE ARE DOING MUCH BETTER NOW!

Bert and Ernie are the two very tiny, couple week old kittens who I picked up from the trailer outside of Fremont. Ernie was half dead and covered with fleas. They were both crusty with urine and feces and the vet said they were in a very weakened state.

Their mother was hit on the road when they were two weeks old. Two of their litter mates died earlier in the week.

The woman in the trailer seemed to do the best she was capable of doing in caring for them. I had noticed that the milk was left out on the countertop, unrefrigerated. The kittens were in a box sitting on the cold floor, and the box was feces and urine soaked. But they at least made an attempt to save the four kittens. If not for them, Bert and Ernie would have died for certain. It is a miracle they made it though the week.

I immediately took them in to the vet's to be checked. The Dr. said Ernie was in pretty bad shape and said that both were in a weakened state. I brought them home and started the 'tiny kitte' process of defleaing, warming, and filling their tiny tummies with warm kitten milk that contained cholesterum. Then, I mixed the kitten milk with AD. Amazingly enough, they were able to eat on their own. Just a few bites at first, but I kept wiping more into their tiny mouths with my finger.

Image - - I stayed by their side that first night and drifted off to sleep on the floor by their box in the wee hours of the morning. When I awoke and looked inside I couldn't believe my eyes. I had previously placed a plush stuffed dog in their box thinking it would give them some-thing to snuggle up to. There they were, leaning against the stuffed doggie, face to face, and they looked exactly as if they were praying! My camera happened to be right there so I quickly snapped a photo.

Ernie was half the size of Bert, and seemed almost weightless. His eyes were crusted shut, and he was extremely weak. He opened his mouth to cry, but nothing came out. When you pinched his skin, it stayed that way. He was very low on fluids and lost quite a bit of blood to the fleas.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A FEW DAYS AND A LOT OF LOVE MAKE!

Well, I'd like you to see Bert and Ernie now. Ernie is climbing all over everything, and I can assure you what ever was wrong with his meow devise is certainly working now. They are both eating like little piggies, and are developing individual personalities. Bert is laid back and loves to be petted under his chin and around his ears. Ernie is a nut. He had all but given up until he realized what being warm, clean and having a full belly feels like. Ernie is climbing all over everything and when you reach to pet him he throws himself over onto his back so you will rub his round little tummy. eeing this miracle of Bert & Ernie reminds me exactly why I do what I do. There are no words to describe how I feel looking down into their "condo" and watching them play.

Ernie has a funny, rambunctious personality. He climbs all over everything, and is now talking non-stop. Ernie is still smaller than Bert, but he is catching up quickly.

Bert is a thinker. He is more laid back and loves to be petted on the top of his head and around his ears. Sometimes he sits and stares at Ernie's shenanigans as if to say, "What's the matter with you, Ernie?"

Finally, Bert & Ernie would like you to see their very cool condo. Terry added on a bathroom that is able to be entered through a door from their living quarters. They jump into the litter box, but aren't quite sure yet what they are suppose to do in there.

Seize the day! Life is good...
