HEARTWORM PREVENTION IS ESSENTIAL IN KEEPING DOGS HEALTHY! As you probably know, heartworm larva is carried from dog to dog by mosquitos. Heartworm prevention is simple. It involves a blood draw to determine whether the parasite is present followed up with monthly doses of heartworm preventative medicine. S.P.A. keeps all of our foster dogs on heartworm preventative year-round, as suggested by our veterinarians. Heartworm infestation is dangerous; untreated dogs die and dogs who have to be treated go through weeks of discomfort while the worms are killed and expelled from their bodies. This treatment is expensive and can be dangerous.
All S.P.A. Rescued Dogs are kept on heartworm preventative all year long. This is very costly to maintain for all of our rescued dogs and puppies!
